points

Ever gotten into a situation where you wanted to find out exact specs. of your computer, Motherboard model number, type of memory etc. but couldn't locate? May be you were looking to upgrade memory or some drivers or BIOS, there could be a number of reasons. Sadly, it's hard to figure out in windows. There is a system information utility built-in but that lacks features and doesnt' always point to what you exactly require.

If you are willing to upgrade RAM on your pc, it is always a good practice to find out what exactly is installed inside and match with that. CPUz to the rescue. CPUz is a little nifty utility, freely available here:- http://pcsecurityworld.com/component/option,com_vfm/Itemid,45/do,view/file,cpuz_144.zip/. The latest updated version can also be found on http://cpuid.com.

Download and run, look under Mainboard and SPD tab and get the details easily. Current installed memory will show under SPD tab under slot 1 and slot 2. Look against memory type and max bandwidth and purchase new memory matching with the same speed and type. For instance, the above picture indicates that the currently installed memory in slot is a 512mb DDR PC3200 module. You can also see its exact part number.

CPU-Z is an excellent program for finding out what your memory is and it's current rated speed.

I agree cpuz is an excellent tool.
